From Empty Backyard to Swimming Pool - Here Is How It Works
One of the biggest reasons people choose a container pool over a traditional build is how much simpler the installation process is. No months of excavation, no armies of tradies in and out of your yard, and no endless delays. Here is exactly what happens from the moment you say yes to the day you take your first swim.
We have installed enough container pools to know that the process can feel a little overwhelming if you have never done it before. That is why we walk every single customer through each stage before anything begins. You will always know what is happening, when it is happening, and what to expect next. No guesswork, no surprises, and no stress.
The Installation Process
Step 1 – Initial Consultation and Site Assessment
Everything starts with a conversation. We talk through your vision, your yard, your budget, and your timeline. From there, one of our team members will assess your site either in person or through our remote assessment process, depending on your location. We look at access points for delivery, ground conditions, available space, fencing requirements, and any council or permit considerations that apply to your property. This step makes sure that by the time we get to your yard, everything is already planned and nothing catches anyone off guard.
Step 2 – Design, Customization, and Approval
Once we understand your site, we move into the design phase. This is where you lock in your size, installation style, interior and exterior finishes, heating, filtration, decking, lighting, and any extras you want included. We put together a full proposal with detailed specifications and a fixed price so you know exactly what you are getting and exactly what you are paying. After you approve the design and sign off on the quote, we get to work on your build.
Step 3 – Council Permits and Compliance
Depending on where you live, a container pool installation may require a building permit, a development application, or compliance with local pool safety laws. We handle this process with you and can advise on exactly what approvals are needed in your area. Pool fencing requirements, barrier regulations, and setback rules all vary by council and state, and our team knows how to navigate them so you do not have to figure it out on your own.
Step 4 – Site Preparation
Before your pool arrives, your site needs to be prepared. For above ground installations this typically means leveling the ground and laying a concrete pad or steel support base to carry the weight of the filled pool. For semi-inground and fully inground installations, excavation is carried out to the required depth before the base is prepared. This stage is completed ahead of delivery so that when your container pool arrives, it can go straight into position without any waiting around.
Step 5 – Delivery and Crane Placement
This is the part that never gets old. Your container pool is transported to your property and craned into position in a matter of hours. We coordinate the delivery, the crane hire, and the access logistics well in advance so that the day itself runs smoothly. Most of our customers find the delivery day genuinely exciting, and it is hard not to feel that way when you watch your pool drop into place and start to look exactly like the vision you had in your head.
Step 6 – Plumbing, Electrical, and Filtration Connection
Once the pool is in position, our team connects the plumbing, electrical systems, filtration, heating, and any lighting or water features that are part of your build. All work is carried out by licensed tradespeople and is completed to Australian standards. This stage typically takes one to three days depending on the complexity of your installation and the features included.
Step 7 – Decking and Surrounds
If decking is part of your package, it is built and finished during this stage. Whether you have chosen a simple entry platform or a full wraparound entertaining deck, our team works to make sure the finished product looks and feels like a cohesive, well-designed outdoor space rather than a pool that has just been dropped into a yard.
Step 8 – Water Fill, Commissioning, and Safety Check
With everything connected and the surrounds complete, we fill your pool and commission all of the systems. We test the filtration, heating, lighting, and water chemistry to make sure everything is working exactly as it should. A full safety inspection is carried out before handover to make sure your pool meets every relevant compliance requirement.
Step 9 – Handover and Owner Walkthrough
Before we leave your property, we walk you through everything you need to know to look after your new pool. We cover water care and chemical balancing, how to operate the filtration and heating systems, maintenance schedules, and what to do if you ever have a question or an issue after we are gone. You will leave the handover feeling completely confident about looking after your investment.
How Long Does Installation Take?
For a standard above ground container pool with basic features, the entire process from site preparation to handover typically takes two to four weeks. More complex builds involving inground installation, full decking, heating systems, and additional features can take four to eight weeks. We give you a realistic timeline upfront and keep you updated throughout so you always know where things stand.
What You Need to Have Ready
Access to your yard wide enough for a crane and delivery truck is the most important practical requirement. Beyond that, our team handles almost everything else. We will let you know during the site assessment if there is anything specific you need to organize on your end before installation day.
A Note on Traditional Pools vs Container Pool Installation
A traditional concrete or fibreglass pool installation can take anywhere from eight weeks to six months and involves significant disruption to your property throughout the entire process. A container pool installation is measured in days and weeks, not months. Your yard stays manageable, your life stays relatively normal, and you are swimming sooner than you ever thought possible.
